Visual Communication Post

Olivia Doran

In my visual communications class, we were tasked with creating a piece of art that visually communicated a message to the audience. I decided to make a poster design centering around the idea of less consumption of material items and more time in nature being more fulfilling. The background image used in the poster I found on a free image site called Upsplash; I then opened the image in Photoshop and experimented with some different ideas. I wanted the picture to look like it was glitching out to show that overconsumption is disruptive to nature. I tried free-handing some lines and placing TV static, but I ended up going for using the smudge tool to create the glitch effect I was looking for. I thought using the smudge tool and not introducing outside elements would create a cleaner look. And then of course I imported the image into InDesign and placed my tag line over the photo.
